Hypertronics Delivers Non-magnetic Interconnect Solutions for Medical MRI Applications

Hudson, MA (January 11, 2005) — Magnetic properties of connector components can obscure the results of MRI scans. Leading interconnect company, Hypertronics is addressing this issue with its ability to offer a range of high-performance non-magnetic connectors designed for use in MRI environments.

Explains Hypertronics' Arnie Feinberg, recently appointed Industry Manager, Medical Imaging Scanners : "The standard magnetic field strength of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Systems is typically 0.5 to 3 tesla (T), but research equipment may range up to 7-10T. As these field strengths increase, the magnetic properties of the components within the imaging volume become more critical to the system. Magnetic components used at the MR Coil will cast a shadow obscuring the image and affecting the quality of the analysis."

By careful selection of contact and housing materials, Hypertronics can now offer connectors with non-magnetic properties to suit the requirements of its medical equipment customers.
