Hypertronics Proudly Introduces KFT Series High Density Connectors

Hypertronics Announces the Launch of HyperGrid®
Industry’s First 100,000 Mating Cycle Connectors in Micro Miniature Form Factor

Rugged, Solderless Interconnects Optimized For Military/Aerospace Designs

Hudson, MA (May 17, 2007) – Hypertronics, a leading provider of high performance electrical connectors and interconnect solutions, today announced a new micro-miniature connector family optimized for high reliability connections in high density applications. The new HyperGrid connectors meet the extreme environmental requirements of military, aerospace and industrial applications as well as the high density requirements often seen in the medical industry. The connectors use solderless, compression style contacts, feature the space- and weight-sensitive properties inherent in reduced form factors, and can support more than 100,000 mating cycles.

Offering the same tiny size, high node count, high density and stackability features required in many micro-miniature applications, HyperGrid surpasses the electrical, repeatability and cost limitations associated with other connector technologies. The new scalable technology is available as custom interconnects for PCB-to-PCB, flex cable-to-PCB, and IC-to-PCB designs.

HyperGrid connectors combine rugged RC Spring ProbeTM contact technology with Hypertronics’ expertise in connector engineering, testing and characterization. The connectors require only 10 grams of force per node to maintain connectivity and offer a contact pitch as low as 0.25 mm. HyperGrid’s exceptional signal integrity and consistent DC resistance target multi-GHz RF applications that must withstand extreme shock and vibration.

“No longer do design engineers need to wrestle with the repeatability, data rate and cost issues associated with fuzz buttons, pogo pins, conductive elastomers and other micro-miniature technologies,” said Garry MacDonald, Hypertronics Vice President of Engineering and Business Development. “Engineers from the military, aerospace, industrial and medical industries can turn to Hypertronics' high-reliability, custom interconnects for their high density designs requiring the micro miniature form factor.”

HyperGrid connectors can accommodate up to 2.5 A current, maintain DC resistance of under 50 milliohms across nodes, and keep contact self-inductance to 0.5 nH. They have characteristic impedance of 56 ohms and feature superior signal integrity of less than 1 dB bandwidth to 24GHz. The customized connectors can vary between 0.91 and 2.50 mm in length and between 0.81 and 2.00 mm in height. HyperGrid connectors are now shipping to customers requiring customized interconnects for high reliability military and aerospace applications.
